Riverside Bridge swings into position over the Cam 27 November 2007
The view across the river now has a very large crane in
position. This will be used to swing the bridge into place.
Much of the bridge can now be seen from Riverside, and people
will soon be able to see the bridge’s design in full when the main
span of the bridge is lifted into place in early December.
The 80-tonne main span of the new bridge is due to be lifted into
place on Wednesday, 5 December, but this could change if there are
high winds.
A 400 tonne capacity “crawler” crane will be in place on the
Chesterton side of the river several days before the lift is due to
take place. The crane is being delivered in thirteen different parts
and will be assembled on site.
For the safety of the travelling public, the river will be closed to
navigation for one day.

Upcoming changes at Riverside Place are getting closer
7 June 2007
There are a number of projects in the pipeline which the
board have been working on, and soon the changes should be seen.
The tiles were cleaned in the Lobby as part of an ongoing pressure
to the developers of Riverside Place to provide aesthetically
pleasing tiles in the entrance hall. The cleaning and
re-sealing has not been successful as hoped.
There are going to be changes in the garden along the rear before
the end of June and in October as part of the security plan
Pyrocanthas's are going to be planted along the entire rear of the
building. This will hide the fence and give a good natural defence
from people who are jumping over the fence, or unauthorised access
to the property.
There is ongoing security review, which has gone from pricing and
discussion and is about to move into a phase of finalisation and
pilot project. As part of this CCTV is going to be installed
also, with an initial 5 points of coverage, and expanding to 7 and 9
points in due course. As part of the security plan there is
going to be greater ease of access for people of need and in wheel
chairs also with the elderly in mind. This will give a natural
walking flow through the building.
As part of the over all security plan covers are over the manual
controls for the roller doors in the underground garage.
A Board member has met with the runner up in the local election to
work on the Abby Ward, traffic plan. Riverside is now closed to
through traffic while the bridge is being built. This will
reduce traffic and give the local authority time to monitor the
outcome.
